How is your work-life balance?

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably had moments where your work and personal life start to blur together. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle—answering emails late at night, squeezing in “just one more” task after hours, or feeling like you have to be constantly available. I’ve definitely been there. One of the biggest red flags I’ve learned to recognize is when work starts creeping into my personal time and I feel like I can’t unplug. For those of us working remotely, the challenge is even greater because the office is just a few steps away. That’s why I set clear boundaries—like not even stepping into my office space outside of work hours. The key is to recognize these warning signs early and make intentional changes before burnout creeps in.

How can you have a better work-life balance?

If you’re looking to improve your work-life balance, the best place to start is by setting small, manageable boundaries. One of the biggest game-changers for me has been turning off notifications. Seriously, email, Slack, Teams—mute them when you’re off the clock! Also, scheduling personal time in your calendar is just as important as scheduling work tasks. Block off time for your hobbies, family, or just relaxing so that work doesn’t take over. And don’t be afraid to say “no” or at least, “not right now.” If someone asks for something outside of your work hours, you can respond with, “I’d love to help—let’s set a time during my workday.” The more you respect your own boundaries, the more others will too.

What does work-life balance mean to you?

To me, work-life balance isn’t about finding a perfect 50/50 split every single day—it’s a pendulum that swings back and forth. There will be seasons where work requires more of your time and others where you can focus more on your personal life. The trick is to make sure it evens out in the long run. Having a great work-life balance means knowing when to unplug, prioritizing what matters most, and making sure your job doesn’t define your entire identity. It means valuing the time spent with friends and family just as much as your time spent being productive. And most importantly, it’s about giving yourself grace when things aren’t perfectly balanced—because, spoiler alert, they never will be!

So, Money Buddies, I’d love to hear from you—what does work-life balance mean to you? Hit reply and let me know!
